Post-Operative Appointments

 At Darling Downs Surgical Oncology, post-operative care is an important part of treatment, not an afterthought.

All post-operative appointments are completed directly with Dr Peter O’Donohue in our rooms at St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital, ensuring continuity, familiarity, and timely review.

There is no additional consultation fee for routine post-operative appointments, and there is no need to see your GP for standard surgical follow-up unless otherwise advised.

What post-operative care includes

Post-operative appointments may include:

• wound checks and review
• suture removal
• skin graft and flap checks
• review of pathology results
• assessment of healing and recovery
• planning of any further treatment or follow-up

Any post-operative concerns, including wound issues, graft concerns, or unexpected symptoms are seen promptly and locally, without the need to travel to Brisbane or see a separate wound clinic. 

Timely access if concerns arise

If you experience a post-operative issue, DDSO prioritises urgent review where clinically appropriate.

Being based locally allows patients to access:

• timely face-to-face assessment
• direct review by the operating surgeon
• continuity of care without delays

This local access can make a meaningful difference during recovery.

Face-to-face care, with regional flexibility

Post-operative appointments are generally conducted face to face with Dr O’Donohue, allowing proper examination and assessment.

For patients who live in regional or rural areas, alternative arrangements including care in regional towns where appropriate, can be discussed on an individual basis.

Our approach is flexible and patient-centred, while ensuring safety and quality of care remain the priority.
